Okay, it is my company and the local is my daughter, but you can’t blame me I am a mom first and a business owner second.

My two oldest daughters tried for a spot in the Preteen division of the Miss Teen Phoenix National’s Pageant this year. We were told that over 600 children would try out and only about half would make it through the first interviews. Both of my daughters put their best foot forward with the judges then waited for three agonizing days to hear the results. Thankfully, they both made it through the first round.

Since then they have had the opportunity to train with an actress from New York who has participated in many pageants. They have also learned proper etiquette and many lessons that build self-confidence and self-esteem. The contacted many local businesses with their story of success and a request for sponsorship from the local businesses. This has given them the opportunity to work on their presentation to business professionals and has taught them some important lessons about handling rejection gracefully.

The National’s pageant is a unique pageant that boasts that they are a pageant with a purpose. Instead of judging the contestants a swimsuit and talent category; they are judged primarily on their personality and accomplishments. They do have a casual wear category that allows the contestants to show a bit of their personality in what they wear. They also have a formal wear category that allows the girls to dress in style. Both of these categories contribute to their overall scoring as well.

My daughters have been practicing diligently and keeping up with their school studies too. I must say, I am proud of their commitment and passion.
